I also have used a gasket sealant around and the new seal. It should prove a bit more tolerant and simpler to install/remove without any leakage. It is highly oil resistant and will seal up just peachie. If you go that route, be sure to use the correct, longer bolts to ensure a good fit; I read while searching google that silicon based rtv is not good for oxygen sensors!
